“There’s lots of guitar players… but they just play fast, they don’t concentrate on no soul… but you got ‘em both.” –Albert King to SRV
Friends, fans and fellow Stevie Ray Vaughn (SRV) fanatics… Stevie has FINALLY been nominated for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame! You can cast your vote here:
If you are wondering why he wasn’t already in there in the first place, trust me you’re not alone. I had no idea he wasn’t already in the HoF, and now that I do know, I can’t believe it’s taken this damn long…
Stevie, even though he’s a blues player, influenced and inspired almost every aspiring guitar player (no matter the genre). It’s hard to see how someone with this scope of influence wouldn’t be inducted. Every Rock n’ Roll guitarist wants to know how to solo like Stevie. A lot of people try, but alas, pretty much all of them fail.
SRV is one of the first guitarists I ever listened to actually, & I mean that quite literally… I remember my Dad always had SRV records on when I was a kid (along with Frank Zappa, Chick Corea, & others). So as you can probably tell, SRV has had a huge impact on my life. He’s part of the reason why I even play guitar. Even though I never met him, I got to know him pretty well through his playing. I still love SRV to this day, and I still continue to be in awe of his playing.
RIP Stevie, and may you be nominated into the 2015 Hall of Fame!
